Damals wohnte er in Freiburg, Deutschland, und sein Gro\u00dfvater, der weltber\u00fchmte Architekt und Entwickler der Bauhaus Bewegung Mies van der Rohe, traf seine Mutter und ihn zum Abendessen. Nat\u00fcrlich wollte Lohans Mutter, dass er einen guten Eindruck macht. Er trug seine beste Kleidung und ihm wurde gesagt, dass er sich von seiner besten Seite zeigen solle. Mies war aber nicht so formell, wie Lohan erwartet hatte. Es gab ein Tuch auf dem Tisch, und wie immer brachte Mies Bleistifte. Zu der \u00dcberraschung Lohans zeichnete Mies direkt auf diesem Tuch w\u00e4hrend des Essens. <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Jemand, der auf dem Tisch zeichnen kann<\/i> dachte der junge Lohan, <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">hei\u00dft Architekt.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/i>Das Abendessen war ein Wendepunkt seines Lebens und danach hat er nie eine andere Karriere \u00fcberlegt. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent: .5in; line-height: 200%;\"><span lang=\"DE\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language: DE;\">Diese Anekdote und viele andere hat Dirk Lohan, der Enkelsohn Mies van der Rohes und selber ein wichtiger Architekt w\u00e4hrend seines Vortrags letzten Mittwoch erz\u00e4hlt.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent: .5in; line-height: 200%;\"><span lang=\"DE\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language: DE;\">Hier in Chicago ist der Name Mies van der Rohe nat\u00fcrlich sehr bekannt. Durch seine eigenen Entw\u00fcrfe und durch die Entw\u00fcrfe seiner Studenten hat er die Skyline Chicagos grundlegend gepr\u00e4gt. Pers\u00f6nlich hat er Geb\u00e4ude wie die 860-880 Lake Shore Drive Apartments, Crown Hall auf dem IIT Campus, und das Chicago Federal Center entworfen. Noch wichtiger sind seine Beitr\u00e4ge als einer der wichtigsten Entwickler des Internationalen Stils, eines Stils der Architektur, der auf Ornamentik verzichtet und<i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"> <\/i>Funktion feiert. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent: .5in; line-height: 200%;\"><span lang=\"DE\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language: DE;\">\u201eDie Einfl\u00fcsse der Arbeit von Mies und seiner Kollegen k\u00f6nnen nicht genug betont werden,\u201c glaubt Lohan. Er hat aber nicht nur die Reputation seines Gro\u00dfvaters als Beweis dieser Meinung. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent: .5in; line-height: 200%;\"><span lang=\"DE\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language: DE;\">Lohan hat selbst Geb\u00e4ude in der ganzen Welt entworfen. McDonalds Corporate Headquarters in Oakbrook, die Renovierung von Soldier Field, und das Block Museum hier an Northwestern sind nur ein paar Beispiele von seinem beeindrucken Portfolio. Er mag besonders Museen, denn dieser Geb\u00e4udetyp bietet viele verschiedene M\u00f6glichkeiten an, um kreativ mit Layout zu sein. Er mag alle Gelegenheiten, die ihn erm\u00f6glichen, seine sorgf\u00e4ltige Kreativit\u00e4t zu nutzen. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent: .5in; line-height: 200%;\"><span lang=\"DE\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language: DE;\">\u201eGott ist im Detail.\u201c Dieses Zitat hat Mies van der Rohe einmal gesagt, und es steht fest, dass sein Enkelsohn diesen Begriff verk\u00f6rpert hat. W\u00e4hrend seines Vortrags war es klar, dass Lohan viel Freude an jedem kleinen Detail hat. L\u00e4chelnd sagte er mehrmals, dass es eine lange interessante Geschichte \u00fcber ein kleines Detail (z.B. das Design eines Fensters oder die Form einer Ecke) gab. Seine Liebe f\u00fcr seine Arbeit war deutlich und r\u00fchrend. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent: .5in; line-height: 200%;\"><span lang=\"DE\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language: DE;\">Was ist denn ein Architekt? Ein K\u00fcnstler? Ein Handwerker? Oder jemand, der die Kreativit\u00e4t und der Mut hat, um auf dem Tisch zu zeichnen?
